Proton Mail and ROXI: Privacy, Encryption, and Integration Trade-Offs
Why Proton Mail needs a different integration strategy and how ROXI can respect encryption while exploring customer-service workflows.
Roxi editorial · Practical guide
Why Proton Mail is different
Proton Mail is designed around strong privacy protections and encrypted mail handling. Those design choices are valuable to customers, but they also mean that ordinary cloud-based IMAP or OAuth integrations cannot simply be assumed to work the same way as Gmail or Microsoft 365. ROXI is researching compatibility rather than claiming a ready-made connection. Businesses evaluating Proton Mail should understand that convenience and privacy requirements may create trade-offs.
Understanding Proton Mail Bridge
Proton Mail Bridge is a local application that makes supported Proton mailboxes available to compatible desktop email clients through local IMAP and SMTP interfaces. A cloud SaaS service cannot safely assume it can reach a customer's locally running Bridge instance. Building a supported ROXI connection may require a different architecture, user-side software, or future provider capabilities. We should not ask users to expose local Bridge ports publicly or upload encryption credentials to work around these restrictions.
What ROXI can responsibly offer
ROXI can still help a Proton Mail business prepare customer-service knowledge, draft policy responses from manually provided information, and organize internal support procedures. Any future automated mailbox access would require explicit customer consent, careful encryption and credential design, and a clear explanation of which content is processed by the AI. Until a secure supported path is demonstrated, ROXI should not display Proton Mail as connected or promise automatic inbound reading and outbound replies.
Choosing the right email workflow
A business that prioritizes a straightforward cloud connection may prefer an email provider with an officially supported server-side authorization path. A business prioritizing Proton's privacy model may accept a more limited integration or keep sensitive email outside automated processing. ROXI's channel roadmap should make these choices transparent.
