How to Write FAQs That Customers Actually Understand
Turn confusing policy paragraphs into short, searchable answers that customers can act on.

Use the language customers use
Write questions based on real customer messages instead of internal department names. Put the direct answer first, then give any necessary conditions or exceptions.
Be precise about boundaries
Differentiate returns from exchanges, shipping estimates from carrier-confirmed delivery, and product compatibility from general suggestions. Avoid promises the business cannot consistently honor.
Test and maintain each answer
Ask someone unfamiliar with the business to follow the instructions. Review FAQs after policy changes and inspect search queries that fail to produce useful answers.
